The key to purchasing the right PC video surveillance DVR card is understanding what you're getting. Most cards are advertised according to the
total frame rate.For example, a 4 channel, 30 frame per second (FPS) card means you will have 30 FPS divided between 4 cameras. So the pc based video security software in this case will give 7.5 FPS per camera with all 4 cameras connected.
An important and desirable feature of any PC video surveillance software is the capability to divide total FPS among the connected cameras.
In the example above, you want to be able to divide the 30 FPS between the 4 cameras in any way. If so, you could connect 1 camera and set the frame rate to 30 FPS to achieve true real time recording for that camera, which of course is 30 fps.
