Buying the right video surveillance cameras...
Understanding video surveillance camera specs:
- Resolution - 470 lines and up is high resolution for color video surveillance cameras. Medium resolution might be OK depending on your
application, but remember that DVR's are high resoultion devices.
- Lux - the minumum illumination your video surveillance camera needs to produce a decent picture. The lower the number, the less light required.
But be cautious...a camera with a 0.5 lux rating still won't help you in total darkness.
- Image sensor - will probably be either 1/3" or 1/4" format. 1/3" format means the chip is 1/3" across diagonally it collects more data
than the smaller 1/4" chip. There are several manufacturers of CCD chips for video surveillance cameras with the most popular being Sony & Panasonic.
